EnviousWispr for MAC

Free, open-source AI dictation for Apple Silicon Macs: speak in any app and get clean text, transcribed on your Mac with no account or subscription.

EnviousWispr Overview

EnviousWispr is a dictation app for the Mac menu bar. Press a keyboard shortcut in any app, speak, and your words are transcribed on your Mac and pasted where you were typing. You can choose between two speech models: Parakeet Ultra, the fast default for 25 European languages, and Whisper, which covers more than 99 languages and detects the language automatically. It works offline and needs no account or subscription.

EnviousWispr is made by Envious Labs and is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license. It needs macOS 14 or later and an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer), so it does not run on Intel Macs. The speech models are separate downloads of about 630 MB for Parakeet Ultra and 0.9 GB for Whisper. Optional AI polish tidies grammar and punctuation, either on your Mac or through OpenAI, Gemini or Claude with your own API key; with those cloud services your text, but not your audio, is sent to them. Anonymous usage analytics and crash reporting are on by default, and each can be turned off in the settings. Local recovery can keep audio on your Mac for a short time. The app asks for Microphone and Accessibility permission, and Automation on the first paste fallback.
